In 2009, Commerzbank merged with competitor Dresdner Bank, then the third-largest German bank. Its headquarters are at Commerzbank Tower , the second-tallest building in the EU, at Kaiserplatz. The city's importance as a financial hub has risen since the eurozone crisis. The Jewish community has a history dating back to medieval times and has always ranked among the largest in Germany. Over 7,200 inhabitants are affiliated with the Jewish community, making it the second largest in Germany after Berlin.
